What is FrogPlay Standalone
FrogPlay Standalone is a module that provides school's with a virtual learning environment (VLE) for the quiz experience:
- Pre-built Quizzes
A bank of ready-made quizzes that you can assign to students quickly and easily.
- Advanced Analytics
Enhanced student performance measurement, including the recording of student answers on a question level, and a comparison of student performance over time.
- Quiz Selection For Students
Student(s) can choose quizzes to complete from a bank of ready-made quizzes.
- Games
Students can play fun and exciting games between questions to improve motivation and engagement (if permitted by the teacher).
Allows access to the Quiz Builder which provides:
- 9 Question Types
Test your class’ level of understanding with 9 question formats made available on the FrogPlay quiz builder.
- Auto-Marking
Save time when quizzes are marked on the spot with no delay.
School Dashboard
When you initially log-in to FrogPlay you will be presented with your staff dashboard panel, from here you can access specific applications or reports which the below guide will help you navigate around FrogPlay.
You will be presented with the following information and options.
1. Reports - In here you can access specific reports for the school which you can choose from 4 main category's which include a range of reports for example; student usage, school overview, monthly reports etc.
2. Assignments - In here you can view advanced analytic reports for assignments that you have previously set for students/groups.
3. Messages - In here you will find messages that have been sent from students which may be questions they may have regarding FrogPlay quizzes or Assignments.
4. Student Room - This will provide you with an insight to viewing "FrogPlay" as a student.
5. Statistics - This shows an insight to your schools usage for years and top subjects.
6. Leaderboards - Clicking on ‘Leaderboards’ on the FrogPlay menu bar takes you to the Leaderboards page. This area shows a ranking of students within your school according to the points they earned from completing quizzes.
Reports
Clicking on ‘Reports’ on the FrogPlay menu bar takes you to 4 main types of reports:
1. School Overview
2. Subject Report
3. Student Usage
4. 7 Day Report
Note: All reports will only reflect the current academic year. To keep yearly records, you can export data into a CSV at the end of every year.
In all relevant reports, three main colors are used to differentiate student performance, which will enable you to see which students are struggling and which can move on to other topics:
Red (Mark range 0-39%)
Amber (Mark range 40-69%)
Green (Mark range 70-100%)
School Overview Report
The school overview report displays a summary of quiz usage for the entire school, from the beginning of the academic year until today (the present day). This report is useful for Headteachers and the Senior Leadership Team to measure usage and student performance over the entire year.
The School Overview Report displays the following information:
- Student Statistics: Displays the total number and percentage of students who have logged in, the total time they spent on quizzes, and the average time an individual student has spent on quizzes.
- Teacher Statistics: Displays the total number and percentage of teachers who have logged in, the total number of quizzes created and the total number of quizzes assigned.
- Year Statistics: Displays the number of logins and the total time spent on quizzes.
- Department Overview: Displays the total time spent on quizzes according to subject.
- Year Overview: Displays the total time spent on quizzes according to the year which the students belong to.
- Independent Learning Hours: Displays total time spend on quizzes per month, over an entire academic year. The bar chart is further broken down per month according to the year which the students belong to.
Subject Report
Subject reports display student performance according to subject. This report is useful for Headteachers and the Senior Leadership Team (as well as Heads of Department) to measure and compare usage and student performance among different departments or subjects.
In order to view more information in Subject Reports:
1. Click on a desired Phase (e.g. Upper Primary) to view more information.
2. Use the dropdowns to select a year and class. You can also set a date range to view data from a specific time period. If you do not specify a time period, the default date range is set as the first and last day of the year (1st January to 31st December).
3. You can now view student performance details by subject on the bottom half of the page. Click on a subject to view more details.
4. Click on a quiz name to view more details.
5. This will bring you to a detailed report where you can view each student’s total time, number of attempts, maximum score, first score, last score and average mark.
Under Questions Answered Incorrectly, clicking on the Question enables you to preview the question, whereas clicking on the number of students who answered incorrectly shows the student names on the top of the page.
Student Usage
Student usage displays student performance for individual students across all subjects. This report is useful for class or subject teachers to view student performance across different subjects over the academic year.
To view more information in the Student Usage Report:
1. Use the dropdowns to select a year and class. You can also set a date range to view data from a specific time period. If you do not specify a time period, the default date range is set as the first and last day of the year (1st January to 31st December).
2. You can now view student performance details on the bottom half of the page, showing:
- Last name
- First name
- Total time (Spent on quizzes)
- Average score
- Last Accessed (Time and date when the student last accessed a quiz)
3. Click on a student to view the student’s performance for different subjects.
4. Click on a subject to view student performance of quizzes within that subject.
5. Click on a quiz to view details student performance within the quiz.
6. This will display student performance details for every attempt, and every question within the quiz.
To view the question and the correct / incorrect answers, click on the question.
To view details on each attempt the student has made, click on the date of an exercise attempt.
When viewing a student’s exercise report on a selected attempt, you would be able to view information on all attempts detail summary and details of that particular attempt. Scroll down and click on a particular question for more details of student performance on that question for that quiz.
Day Report
The 7 Day Report displays a summary of total time spent on quizzes, according to weeks. This report is useful for Headteachers, Senior Leadership Team and teachers to view usage trends by week. The report shows:
- Last name
- First name
- Total time spent on quizzes this week
- Total time spent on quizzes the previous week
- Total time spent on quizzes 2 weeks ago
- Total time spent on quizzes 3 weeks ago
Improvements in student performance is indicated by a green upward-pointing tick, whereas a decrease in student performance is indicated by a red downward-pointing tick.
You can filter the information by Year, Class and Group using the drop-downs at the top of the page.
You can also scroll use navigation buttons at the bottom of the page to view more students.
Customising and Downloading Your Reports
You can customise your reports by searching for specific data, and filtering data. You can also download reports for further analysis or for storage.
1. Enter Keywords in Search
When looking through reports, use the grey filter button (this can be found in the top right), and then use the blue search bar on top to help you find reports.
Type in the keyword for what you are searching for which can be the subject or the students full name in the search bar then click Enter to search for results.
2. Using different Dropdowns
Use the different dropdowns available (Year, Class and User Type) by clicking on them and choosing accordingly to help narrow down your search.
3. Filtering Time and Dates
When looking through reports, you can also filter reports according to specific time and dates by selecting the grey "Filter" button.
1. Click on the "Calendar" icon to open the calendar.
2. Under the calendar, Use the arrows to move back and forth to navigate between months.
3. Click on a specific date on the calendar to choose the starting date of your report. The date will highlight in blue once selected.
4. To choose a specific time for the reports (optional), click on "Click to set time".
5. Use the up and down arrows to set time according to hh: mm: ss 6. Proceed by clicking anywhere outside of the timer settings
7. Once you have chosen the time, repeat steps 1 to 6 to set the end date/time of your report.
To clear search settings/filters, click on on the right hand side of the search.
Downloading Reports
Once you have searched and successfully found a specific report that you want, click on "Download CSV" to download the report onto your desktop.
Clicking on this blue button will activate the download of your report in CSV format.
Profile
To view your profile, click on your user icon on the right hand side of the Frogbar, then click on "My Avatar".
You can now view your avatar and perform different functions to personalise your FrogPlay avatar. Your avatar is your personal icon customisable according to your preferences.
Credits System
Parts for your avatar are redeemed or ‘purchased’ using credits. The total credits you currently hold will be displayed on the top left corner of your profile. To help you get started, each user will receive a default number of credits:
- Teachers: 100,000 credits
- Students: 600 credits
This will encourage students to earn their credits by completing more quizzes.
Editing Your Avatar
To customise your avatar, you can choose different parts, which can be further customised according to colors and skins.
Selecting an Avatar Part
1. Click on the drop down menu in the top right.
2. Click on the category you would like to view (e.g. Accessories)
3. Click on an avatar part to try it on. The cost of each part is shown with a orange marker. Parts with no orange markers cost nothing to use.
4. To move or position the avatar part you have just added around, use the Nudge buttons below your Avatar.
5. If the part you have selected needs to be ‘purchased’ using your points, you will see the cost of the part above your avatar:
6. Click on ‘Add to Basket’ if you are sure you would like to ‘purchase’ this part. This would automatically add to your shopping cart.
7. Once you are satisfied with your avatar, click on Save to proceed.
8. If the part you have selected needs to be ‘purchased’ using your points, a pop-up of your shopping list will appear.
9. To remove an item from the list, click on the top right red "X" on the item.
10. To remove all items from the list, click "Empty Basket".
11. If you are would like to confirm your shopping list and complete your ‘purchase’, click
on "Buy all items and save".
12. Once the items have been successfully added, a message will appear saying "Avatar saved".
Changing the Avatar Skin Colour
1. Clicking on "Skin Color" on the top left of your page.
2. This will bring up a colour palette in the middle of your page. Hover over the palette to show the different colors available and click on the colour you want with the magnifying glass.
3. This will change the colour of the feature you had chosen.
Note: if the avatar displays no change in colour, this means that feature is not editable.
4. Save your changes by clicking on "Save"
Randomise Avatar Parts
To create an avatar made out of random parts selected by the system, click the "Randomise Avatar" button.
Downloading Your Avatar
1. Click the "Camera" icon"
2. Choose between including the background in your image by selecting one of the options:
a) To save your avatar with your background click on "With Background".
b)To save your avatar without a background click on "No Background".
3. This will then start a download of a picture of your Avatar.
Accessing Pre-Built Quizzes
With FrogPlay Standalone, you can access a bank of ready-made quizzes that you can assign or share with students quickly and easily.
1. Launch your “Quick Launch” icon located on the top right of your Frog Bar.
2. Click on the “Quizzes” icon.
3. Using the filter options select your "Key Stage" and "Subject".
4. You can also choose to filter by creator "FrogPlay" / "My Quizzes" / "My School" or "Community".
- Frogplay - Quizzes that have been created by Frog.
- My Quizzes - Quizzes that you have created or used.
- My School - Quizzes that have been created by staff at your school.
- Community - Quizzes that have been shared from other school's that us FrogPlay.
5. Select the "Magnifying Glass" icon to preview any of the quizzes.
6. You will then be able to view the questions and answers.that are in included in the quiz.
Note: If you have any feedback for us regarding the quiz questions you can use the feedback boxes on the right, and click the "Submit Feedback" button.
Building a Quiz
If you can't find the quiz you are looking for you can create your own quiz from scratch or duplicate an existing quiz to edit the questions/answers.
1. Start by selecting the "Create New Quiz" button.
2. You will be provided with two options which you can create a brand new quiz or duplicate an existing quiz.
3. Select "create a new quiz" and it will then ask you to enter the initial quiz details.
- Exercise name: Give the Quiz a title. This is what students will see in their assignment or site (widget) so make sure it relates to the topic of the exercise you’re building.
- Key Stage: Select a key stage.
- Subject: Select a subject.
- Year: Select a Year
- Instructions: These are optional instructions to the child when taking the Quiz. These might be the instructions for the quiz itself or guidance on the area the quiz covers. The instructions will appear within the Quiz Widget on your site.
- Optional Instructions: You can upload a resource e.g. worksheets, diagrams, PDF of a page of text that the questions may be based on.
- Remote Media Files: You can add a URL of a video from YouTube or Vimeo and this will be attached to your quiz.
4. Once completed, click on "Next" to start adding questions to your quiz.
5. Select Question Types
Once you have successfully entered your quiz details, you are ready to add questions to your quiz. There are now 9 types of questions to choose from, more options than previously offered in our previous quiz engine:
- Multiple choice: Questions for which students can select an answer (or multiple answers) from up to 5 possible answers, where the answers are text.
- Free text: Questions for which students must type the answer in a text field.
- Match Pairs: Questions for which students need to drag images/text entered in the top answer box into the matching box below.
- Ordering: Questions for which students must arrange the answers in a particular order.
- Category: Questions for which students must drag answers into the correct categories.
- Highlight Words: Questions for which students must highlight the correct words in a sentence.
- Fill the Blanks: Questions for which students must type the missing answers from a sentence.
- Find Questions: You can use this feature to add questions that the system suggests or add questions that have been used in other exercises.
Click on a question type to create a question.
Within the specific questions, click on for tips on every question type you have selected.
Multiple Choice
- Enter your question in the question box in the top half of the page.
- Enter up to 5 possible answers in the Answer(s) section at the bottom half of the page. The answers will be randomised in order for each time a student completes a quiz.
- Select the right answer by clicking on the tick on the left side of the answer. The right answer will be indicated by a green tick. You can tick more than one answer to allow multiple correct answers (for example ‘Which two of the following are examples of…’)
- Add optional images or audio to your question by clicking Upload Image or Upload Audio to upload a resource from your device, or click on Add Media to select a resource from your Discover or FrogDrive.
- Click Save Question once done.
Free Text
- Enter your question in the question box in the top half of the page.
- Enter the accepted answers in the Accepted Answers For multiple accepted answers, enter one acceptable answer per line.
- Add optional images or audio to your question by clicking Upload Image or Upload Audio to upload a resource from your device, or click on Add Media to select a resource from your Discover or FrogDrive.
- Click Save Question once done.
Under the free text option, you are also allowed to enter Feedback to give your student examples related to the question you’re building. Paragraphs as answers are not recommended here.
Drag & Drop
- Enter your question in the question box in the top half of the page.
- Add or enter an image or text in pairs, where the top box and the bottom box form a match. Note: You can mix text and images in either the top or bottom boxes.
- Click Save Question once done.
Ordering
- Enter your question in the question box in the top half of the page.
- Under the Correct Order section, add or enter images or text in the correct order from left to right.
- Click Save Question once done.
Category
- Enter your question in the question box in the top half of the page.
- Under the Categories section, enter the name of each category. Note: If you only fill in two category columns (for example ‘Advantages’ and ‘Disadvantages’), the other three columns will not appear to the student.
- In the box under the category heading, enter the items associated with the category.
- Click Save Question once done.
Highlight Word
- Enter your instructions in the box marked Enter your question text here. This is used to provide instructions such as ‘Click on the prepositions in the sentence below’.
- Enter the body of text into the Answer(s) box. This is used to create the sentence itself.
- Highlight a word or phrase, and click ‘Select Answer’.
- To highlight more than one word or phrase, repeat the step above.
- Click Save Question once done.
When presented to the student these words will appear like any others and the students will highlight the words they believe are the correct answers.
Note: The student must find all of the words to be marked correct. You may want to consider including this in your question text, for example, ‘Click on the prepositions in the sentence below. There are 3 prepositions to find’.
Fill the Blanks
- Enter your question text in the question box, in a full sentence. This is used to provide instructions such as ‘Complete the sentence below’.
- Highlight the words in the sentence(s) that will be made ‘blank’ in a fill-in-the-blanks format, and click Mark as Answer Text. This indicates the correct answers for the fill-in-the-blanks question.
- Enter some optional incorrect answers under the Incorrect ‘Dummy’ Answers section to provide a selection of answers from which your students can choose their answers. The correct answers will already be made as the ones you have highlighted within the sentence or paragraph (step 2).
- Click Save Question once done.
Note: When presented to the student, the highlighted (correct) answers in the sentence(s) will be removed and mixed with the incorrect dummy answers for the student to drag them into place.
Find Questions
Clicking on from the Question Types page will give you 2 options:
Suggested Questions
To help you create high-quality quizzes, Suggested Questions provides a bank of questions from the available content that is relevant to the quiz you are currently creating – these are questions that have been filtered according to the keywords you have used in your current quiz.
- Click on Suggested Questions to view the suggested questions.
- Use the black navigation buttons at the bottom of the page to move back
and forward
when looking for questions you would like to add.
- To add a question to your quiz, click on
.
- To return to your quiz, click on
.
Find Questions
The Find Questions tool is ideal for combining existing questions from other exercises to make new end of topic or end of month/year tests.
If you know the questions you are looking for, or the topics that are related to the questions you are entering you can find specific questions in other exercises within the quiz engine.
- Click on Find Questions
- Enter the relevant keywords in the search bar on top or use the drop-downs to look in specific exercises you wish to take questions from.
- Use the black navigation buttons at the bottom of the page to move back
and forward
when looking for questions you want to add.
- To add the question to your quiz click on
.
- To return to your quiz, click on
.
Setting Marks for Questions
For each question you create, the default mark will be set as 1. However, you can customise the value of each question by changing the marks.
- Click on the Marks box at the bottom left of a question.
- Type the value of the mark.
- Click "Save Question" to save the mark.
Editing Questions
All questions can be edited by clicking the Edit icon next to the question you would like to edit. Once clicked, the question text, images and audio can be changed.
Note: Questions can only be edited from unpublished quizzes. Published quizzes must be duplicated before it can be edited.
Changing the Order of Questions
By default, quizzes will present the questions in random order to the student. Alternatively, after adding more than one question you can manually set the order of questions.
- At the bottom of the screen, click on the switch marked ‘Randomise Questions’ to change it to the ‘OFF’ position.
- At the top right of each question, you can now view a new ‘handle’ icon. To reorder questions, click the handle and drag it up or down to rearrange the order they are in.
- Click Save Question once done.
Duplicating Questions
If you have a number of questions similar to each other (for example ‘What is A in this diagram?) you can duplicate the question for faster entry.
- Click on the ‘duplicate’ icon
at the top right hand side of the question you would like to duplicate.
- This will create another copy of the question, which you can edit accordingly.
- Click Save Question once done.
Uploading or Adding Media in Questions
Uploading an Image from Your Device
- Click on

- Select the file you want from your device and click the ‘Open’ button.
- Once the Image has been successfully uploaded it would appear on the right hand side of your screen.
- To cancel/ delete any media uploads , click on
.
Note: Images must be .jpg or .png file to display correctly. Consider the file size when uploading to ensure a smooth playback to students..
Uploading Audio from Your Device
- Click on
.
- Select the file you want from your device and click the ‘Open’ button.
- Once the Audio has been successfully uploaded it would appear on the right hand side of your screen.
Note: Audio must be .mp3 (preferred), 3gpp, mid, ogg or .wav files to play correctly. Consider the file size when uploading to ensure a smooth playback to students.
Removing Media
To remove any media uploads, click on .
Saving & Closing a Quiz
The Find Questions tool is ideal for combining existing questions from other exercises to make new end of topic or end of month/year tests.
- Once you have finished building your quiz, click on
at the bottom right corner of the screen.
- If your Quiz contains less than 20 questions, you will receive a message recommending more questions are added. You have the option of adding more questions by clicking on
to return to the question entry page.
- If you cannot think of additional questions to enter, you can consider using the Find Questions tool.
Note: We recommend an exercise should contain 20 questions to maintain the challenge and duration comparable to the FrogPlay prebuilt quizzes.
Using FrogPlay Quizzes in Assignments
Quizzes can be assigned to students to allow them to complete the quizzes as part of homework.
Assigning a Quiz
Having selected a quiz, there are two ways these can be assigned to students:
- From Quizzes
- From Assignment Manager
From Quizzes
1. Once you have found the quiz using the search filters, click the student icon on the right of the quiz.
2. Enter your assignment details into the available fields.
- Title - Name of your assignment.
- Available From - This is when your assignment will be available for students to start.
- Deadline - This will be the due date that the assignment needs to be completed by.
- Time Limit - Here you can set a time limit for the whole quiz or a set time limit for each question.
- Set as Exam - Students cannot retry and the quiz will be treated as an exam
- Set as Single Attempt - This will not allow the student to retry
- Set this assignment again - You can set this to assign again to the students in order to retest the students knowledge
3. Select your student(s) or Class that you want to assign the homework to using the filter options available.
4. Once you have selected your students you can click the "Advanced" button which will allow you to set more or less than 20 questions to your students.
5. Once you are happy with your assignment click the "Finish" button at the bottom.
From Assignment Manager
1. Select the "Quick Launch" icon on your Frog bar.
2. Launch the "Assignment Manager" application by clicking the icon or select "Assignments" from the teacher dashboard.
3. In the "Assignment Manager" application select "Add Assignment"
4. Enter your assignment details into the available fields.
- Title - Name of your assignment.
- Available From - This is when your assignment will be available for students to start.
- Deadline - This will be the due date that the assignment needs to be completed by.
- Time Limit - Here you can set a time limit for the whole quiz or a set time limit for each question.
- Set as Exam - Students cannot retry and the quiz will be treated as an exam

- Set this assignment again - You can set this to assign again to the students in order to retest the students knowledge
5. Select your student(s) or Class that you want to assign the homework to using the filter options available.

Messages
You can access the "Messages" application by clicking on the "Quick Launch" icon and selecting the "messages" icon.
You can use the messages application to send messages directly to students inside of Frog.
Users
You can open the Users application by clicking on the "Quick Launch" icon and selecting the "Users" application icon
You can use this application to manage your users in FrogPlay.
